Gina Piper, who has been selling local homes for more than 25 years, pointed out that the national inventory of homes is at an all-time low. In contrast to the Great Recession 2007-2008 where homeowners were hard hit, this time it’s been primarily renters. Homeowners are not putting their homes on the market unless they’re moving out of the area. One of the striking statistics Piper shared showed one month in COVID-19 times where homes averaged just 17 days on the market—even the slowest months were 30 days or less.
The Planting Love Project began through the collective efforts of Christina, Lonnie, Ethan, and Lauren Gray with funding and coordination by The Make A Difference Foundation, Ron Sutton and Jerri Long.
The launch team included the Gray, Sutton, Long, Bursey, Boswell, Rajagopalan, Salomon, Wall, and Volgraff families. Thank you for your assistance!
It is our hope that The Planting Love Project becomes an active part of every community across the United States and around the world. Together will will see how far love can grow.

Gray is an accomplished professional photographer whose Bella Luna Studios, based in Pleasanton, is a favorite among residents in the area, including as 10-time winner of the annual Pleasanton Weekly Readers’ Choice competition and a Readers’ Choice Hall of Fame recipient. She is also a published author; her allergen-conscious cookbook, “Be Free Cooking: The Allergen-Aware Cook,” was released in 2015.
Gray often pairs her photography skills with her commitment to volunteerism, taking pictures for free for nonprofit organizations such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation, First Tee of the Tri-Valley, Axis Community Health, the Ed Kinney Foundation, Make a Difference for Pleasanton, Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and Kids Against Hunger.

In 2015, Gray published an original cookbook, “Be Free Cooking The Allergen Aware Cook.” This was a new way to engage with the community, and especially the school her children attended, Mohr Elementary School.
During the last two years, she has taught a writing and food workshop at Mohr she developed for second-graders. In April, she launched the Rising Star program, inspiring young students to write and “publish” their own books for the school library and coordinated an Author Day.

To that end, volunteer Christina Gray put together the first Author Day at Mohr Elementary School last month. Six local published and non-published authors talked to students from the five second-grade classes about following their dreams.
